About this tool
Lossy compression removes detail the eye barely notices. A quality of 70–80% typically cuts a photo’s size by 60–85% with no visible difference. “Auto” keeps JPG photos as JPG and converts PNG screenshots and graphics to WebP, which is usually much smaller than PNG while supporting transparency.
For the biggest savings on large photos, also set a maximum width — a 4000-pixel phone photo resized to 1920 px is a fraction of the size and still sharp on any screen.
FAQ
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are processed with the HTML canvas API inside your browser. They never leave your device, which makes PixSquish safe for personal photos and confidential screenshots.
Which formats are supported?
Anything your browser can open: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, SVG and, in most modern browsers, AVIF. Output can be JPG, PNG or WebP.
What quality should I use?
75% is a good default for web photos. Use 85–90% for images where detail matters (product photos), and 50–60% for thumbnails.
Why did my PNG get bigger as JPG?
Simple graphics with flat colours compress better as PNG or WebP. Choose WebP for screenshots and logos.
